You can contribute to the plan on a pre-tax, post-tax Roth basis up to the IRS annual maximums.

After one year of employment, Hope College will contribute 10.5% of your salary—no match required!

The College's contribution will begin the first of the following month after you hit one year of service. This benefit is not offered to Resident Directors.

Disability Insurance

Disability benefits are offered to all benefit-eligible employees except RDs, RLCs, Interns, and visiting faculty.

Short-Term Disability

We provide short-term disability at no cost to you!

Benefit Amount

Hourly Employees

60% of normal rate of pay for medically necessary leave

Salaried Staff (Faculty and Administrative)

100% wage continuation for medically necessary leaves

Maximum Benefit Duration

26 weeks

Long-Term Disability

We provide a base long-term disability benefit at no cost to you! You can also elect a buy-up amount for a small premium. These benefits work together when your needs exceed 26 weeks.

Base Benefit Amount

60% of your monthly income up to $6,000 per month

Buy-Up Benefit Amount

70% of your monthly income up to $7,500 per month

The College covers the first 60%; you cover the cost for the additional 10% of the benefit amount. See your cost for coverage when you enroll online.

Life Insurance

Life insurance benefits are offered to all benefit-eligible employees except RDs, RLCs, Interns, and visiting faculty.

Hope College provides basic term life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) coverage at no cost to you. You can give your loved ones an additional layer of security by purchasing voluntary life insurance coverage at competitive group rates.

Basic Life and AD&D

You have coverage for 1.5× your basic annual earnings.

Voluntary Life Insurance

You can elect coverage ranging from 1–7× your basic annual earnings. See your cost for coverage when you enroll.

Keep Your Beneficiaries Up to Date!

All life insurance benefits are paid to the beneficiary(ies) on file with HR.

The College encourages you to review your beneficiaries annually and update if needed so HR has your most recent wishes on file.
